Kirinuki copies text from your screen. It reads the area you select, on your Mac, and puts the text on your clipboard. This page explains, in plain words, what data is involved.
Kirinuki is made by Guido Crego in Buenos Aires, Argentina, who is responsible for the data described here.
The app
- Screen Recording permission. macOS requires it for any app that reads the screen. Kirinuki only looks when you press its shortcut, and only at the area you select.
- What you capture stays with you. The text is recognized on your Mac, with Apple's Vision framework. Kirinuki never sends what you capture anywhere and keeps no screenshots. The text goes to your clipboard; if you use Universal Clipboard, macOS can pass it to your other Apple devices, like anything you copy.
- No analytics. No account, no usage data, no crash reports.
Your license
When you activate Kirinuki, the app sends your license key and a random ID for this Mac (never its name) to Dodo Payments, which runs our license service. That's how one license stays on one Mac. After that, Kirinuki never checks the license again and works offline. When you deactivate, the activation is removed. The key is stored in your Mac's keychain.
Updates
Kirinuki asks you before it checks for updates. When it checks, it asks getkirinuki.com whether there's a new version. Like any web request, that reveals your IP address and the app version. No other system information is sent.
Buying Kirinuki
Purchases are handled by Dodo Payments, our reseller and Merchant of Record. They process your payment details; we never see your card. Dodo shares with us what we need to give you your license and help you: your name, email address, country and order details. The Buy button also tells Dodo where you bought from (for example, the Spanish home page, or the app) and, if you arrived through a link we posted, where we posted it (for example, ?src=reddit). Nothing else about your visit is recorded.
This website
getkirinuki.com sets no cookies and runs no ads. We count visits with Umami, which doesn't use cookies or store your IP address: it records the page, where the visit came from, general details like country, browser and type of device, and clicks on Buy and Download. Nobody is identified or followed across sites. Fonts load from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address like any web request. Like any web server, ours keeps short technical logs (IP address, browser, page requested) to keep the site running and secure.
Your rights
You can ask us what data we have about you, and ask us to correct or delete it. Write to kabronero@gmail.com. If you're in the EU or the UK, you also have the right to complain to your data protection authority.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
